The Pura Lempuyang Luhur split-gate (candi bentar) in East Bali is one of Asia's most photographed viewpoints. The perfectly symmetrical stone gateway frames Mount Agung in the background — when shot with a mirror or still water in front, the reflection creates a breathtaking symmetrical composition. Beyond the famous gate, the full temple complex stretches up the mountain with seven sacred shrines.
Photographers create the reflection by holding a mirror or using water in a tray in front of the camera. The pool effect in most Instagram photos is a technique — but the gate and mountain view itself are 100% real and stunning.
Queues can be 1–2 hours in peak season (July–August). Arriving before 07:30 gives you the best chance of a shorter wait and softer morning light.
It's a 2–2.5 hour drive from South Bali, so we recommend combining it with other East Bali highlights like Tirta Gangga, Candidasa, and Amed to make the most of the journey.
Yes — the complete pilgrimage route climbs to seven temples and takes 3–4 hours. Most visitors see only the first gate; if you want the full hike, let us know when booking.
A sarong and sash are mandatory for both men and women. They are available to rent for free or a small fee at the entrance. Shoulders and knees should be covered out of respect.
