Mount Batur is an active volcano rising 1,717 metres above sea level in Bali's central highlands. The pre-dawn trek to the summit is one of the island's most iconic adventures — arriving at the crater rim just as the sun breaks the horizon over Mount Rinjani and Lake Batur is a genuinely life-changing experience. The climb is challenging but achievable for most travellers with basic fitness.
Yes, with a reasonable fitness level. The trail is steep in places but does not require technical climbing skills. Most guides pace the group to suit all abilities.
A local guide is mandatory. All hikers must be accompanied by a registered guide from the local association (PGMB). Our tour includes a certified guide and equipment.
Bring a warm jacket, headlamp (or headtorch), comfortable hiking shoes, water (2 litres), snacks, and sunscreen for the descent. Our guide carries a first-aid kit.
Cloud cover is most common during the wet season (Nov–Mar). If clouds roll in you may not see the full sunrise, but the experience of the volcano crater is still spectacular. We cannot offer refunds for weather.
Yes, Mount Batur is an active volcano — its last significant eruption was in 2000. The volcano is continuously monitored by authorities and the trek is safe during normal activity levels.
