Tanah Lot is one of Bali's most photographed landmarks — a 16th-century Hindu sea temple dramatically perched on an offshore rock formation. As the sun sinks into the Indian Ocean, the silhouette of the temple against a fiery sky creates one of the most memorable sights in all of Southeast Asia. The site is deeply sacred to the Balinese and remains an active place of worship.
The main temple sits on a rock accessible only at low tide, and entry is restricted to Hindu worshippers. Visitors enjoy the temple from the surrounding cliffs and viewpoints — still spectacular.
Arrive around 17:00–17:30 for the golden hour and sunset. Mornings are quieter if you prefer fewer crowds. Avoid midday when it's both crowded and very hot.
