Standing at 1,717 metres, Mount Batur is Bali's most iconic active volcano and the island's most popular sunrise trek. The 2-hour climb through volcanic ash and lava fields rewards you with a sunrise above the clouds and panoramic views of Lake Batur, Mount Agung, and Lombok on the horizon. Our private guided trek includes pre-dawn hotel pickup, an experienced certified guide, and a hot breakfast cooked on volcanic steam at the summit.
Mount Batur is rated moderate difficulty. The 2-hour ascent involves walking on loose volcanic ash and rocks at a steep but manageable gradient. No technical climbing is required. Most reasonably fit adults and teenagers (13+) can complete it with a guide.
Hotel pickup is typically at 02:00–03:00 AM depending on your location. The hike starts at around 04:00 AM to reach the summit before sunrise at approximately 06:00 AM. We'll confirm your exact pickup time when you book.
Bring a torch or headlamp (essential), warm layers (it can be cold at the summit), sturdy closed-toe shoes, a rain jacket, sunscreen, and water. We provide trekking poles on request. All safety gear and a hot summit breakfast are included.
Yes. Mount Batur is an active volcano but is closely monitored by the Indonesian Volcanology Agency. The standard hiking trail is considered safe for tourists when accompanied by a certified guide. We stay updated on activity levels and will reschedule if any safety advisory is issued.
Cloudy days can add mystique to the experience, but if visibility is very poor due to weather, we can help reschedule your hike at no extra cost. We monitor forecasts closely and will alert you 24 hours in advance if conditions look unfavourable.
