Bali Zoo is a managed wildlife attraction in Singapadu, Sukawati, Gianyar, south of Ubud. The zoo combines animal habitats, tropical gardens, family activities, educational presentations, food outlets, and animal-focused programmes in one walkable destination. It can work as a family day out or as part of a Gianyar itinerary, but visitors should plan around heat, walking, feeding schedules, and current animal-welfare rules.

Bali Zoo is not the same as Bali Safari and Marine Park or Bali Bird Park. Those are separate attractions with different locations, ticket products, habitats, and operating arrangements. Check the destination name carefully when booking transport or tickets.
Animals and Habitats at Bali Zoo
The collection includes mammals, birds, reptiles, and other animals presented in themed habitats. Public information about the zoo highlights animals such as orangutans, elephants, lions, tigers, and birds, while the exact collection, enclosure access, and daily viewing opportunities can change. A current zoo map and staff guidance are more reliable than assuming every animal will be visible at every visit.

Observe animals quietly and give them space. Do not tap glass, throw objects, call loudly, feed animals outside approved programmes, or attempt to touch them. A good zoo visit focuses on behaviour, habitat design, conservation context, and responsible observation rather than forcing an interaction.
Big Cats and Other Large Mammals
Bali Zoo has presented large mammals including tigers and lions. Viewing conditions depend on animal welfare, weather, feeding routines, veterinary care, and enclosure design. The animals may rest in shaded areas or remain out of sight, which is normal and should be respected.
A tiger viewing experience should prioritise quiet observation and respect for the animal’s space. Image via Wikimedia Commons, Ossi Petruska, CC BY-SA 2.0. Source.
Never assume a close photograph means an animal is comfortable with human contact. Follow barriers and staff instructions, keep children within reach, and avoid using flash if prohibited. Choose programmes that explain conservation and natural behaviour rather than encouraging unsafe handling.

Elephant Programmes and Animal Welfare
Bali Zoo has offered elephant-focused experiences, but the programme landscape changed in 2026. The Bali Natural Resources Conservation Agency reported that Bali Zoo stopped elephant riding demonstrations from 1 January 2026 in response to the national direction to end elephant-riding performances at conservation institutions. Visitors should not expect elephant riding to be available and should verify which non-riding activities are currently offered.
Current visitor products may include observation, feeding, bathing, mud-related activities, or educational encounters, but the exact format, welfare standards, age limits, and schedule must be checked directly with Bali Zoo. Do not book a product solely from an old blog, reseller listing, or social-media photograph.
A rhinoceros encounter is best approached through quiet observation and an understanding of the animal’s habitat needs. Image via Wikimedia Commons, Yogwi21, CC BY-SA 3.0. Source.
When assessing an animal encounter, look for voluntary participation, no forced tricks, no riding, safe distance, trained staff, shade, water, rest periods, and clear limits on visitor contact. If an activity appears stressful or unsafe, do not participate and report concerns to the venue or relevant authority.
Things to Do at Bali Zoo
A normal zoo visit can include walking through habitats, attending scheduled animal presentations or keeper talks, viewing birds and reptiles, visiting family areas, and stopping for food or drinks. The zoo’s current visitor information also promotes programmes such as Zoo Explore, Breakfast with Orangutan, Brunch with Capybara, Elephant Explorer, and Elephant Mud Fun. Availability and inclusions vary, so confirm the product and date before purchase.
Some programmes require advance booking, have separate meeting points, or run only at specific times. Arrive early for a reserved experience and keep the confirmation details available. Regular entry does not automatically include every premium activity.
Opening Hours and Tickets
Current visitor information lists Bali Zoo as open daily from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM, with last check-in commonly listed at 4:00 PM for ticketed products. Opening hours, presentation times, ticket prices, inclusions, and seasonal promotions can change, so check the official Bali Zoo booking channel on the day you plan to visit.
Ticket categories may differ for adults, children, residents, and special programmes. A child age range, height rule, meal inclusion, animal encounter, or transport add-on should never be assumed from an older listing. Read the current terms carefully, especially for non-refundable bookings, rescheduling, weather interruptions, and programme restrictions.
Best Time to Visit Bali Zoo
Arrive near opening time for cooler walking conditions and a better chance of seeing animals during active morning periods. Midday can be hot and humid, while rain may affect outdoor presentations and paths. If you book a breakfast or morning encounter, build the rest of the day around that fixed schedule.
Allow at least three to five hours for a relaxed visit. Families may need longer because of meal stops, rest breaks, animal presentations, and children’s activities. Wear light clothing, use sun protection, carry drinking water, and bring a rain layer during Bali’s wetter months.
Facilities, Accessibility, and Family Planning
Bali Zoo provides visitor facilities that may include parking, toilets, food and beverage outlets, information services, seating, and accessible facilities. The terrain is landscaped but not uniformly flat; paths, heat, crowds, and distances can affect visitors using strollers or mobility aids. Ask staff about the most accessible route and current facility access.
Families should plan toilet and hydration stops before entering longer habitat routes. Do not let children run toward barriers or reach through fences. Keep food, bottles, loose toys, and bags secured around animals, because some species may grab objects or react to food.
How to Get to Bali Zoo
Bali Zoo is located on Jalan Raya Singapadu, Singapadu, Sukawati, Gianyar, Bali 80582. It is south of Ubud and near the Singapadu–Sukawati area. Private drivers, taxis, and ride-hailing services are common options, while public transport is less direct.
Traffic between Ubud, Sukawati, Sanur, and southern Bali can make travel times unpredictable. Arrange a return vehicle if you are using a ride-hailing service, especially after a scheduled programme. Use the exact Bali Zoo name and confirm the entrance rather than relying on a similarly named safari or bird park.
The most reliable current map position is approximately -8.59127, 115.26454. This coordinate is for the Bali Zoo location in Singapadu; verify the live route and entrance before travelling.
Responsible Zoo Visiting
Support animal welfare by following barriers, signs, keeper instructions, and no-feeding rules. Do not use flash where it is prohibited, do not shout at resting animals, and do not encourage unnatural behaviour for photographs. Avoid products that involve riding, coercion, unsafe touching, or performances that appear stressful.
Keep the zoo clean, minimise single-use plastic, and do not remove plants, stones, feathers, or other materials. Respect staff and other visitors, and remember that animals need quiet periods away from public attention. A responsible visit helps the zoo communicate conservation and welfare more effectively.
Nearby Attractions
Bali Zoo can be combined with Bali Bird Park, Batuan Village, Sukawati Art Market, Tegenungan or Blangsinga Waterfall, and selected Ubud attractions. These destinations are separate and can become difficult to combine during peak traffic. Choose one or two nearby stops rather than building an unrealistic full-day route.

I’m happy to leave this review because I know Made personally, and I can honestly say he’s one of the best guides and kindest people you’ll meet in Bali.
What makes him special isn’t just his deep knowledge of the island – though that alone is impressive. He knows all the hidden gems, the best times to visit popular spots, and always has interesting stories behind every temple and rice terrace. But more than that, he genuinely cares about the people he’s with. He doesn't treat it like a job; he treats it like he's showing his own friends around his home.
I’ve seen how he goes out of his way to make sure everything runs smoothly, how he checks in on comfort and safety, and how he handles any little issue with a smile. He's reliable, patient, and incredibly warm-hearted. If you're looking for someone who will not only show you beautiful places but also make you feel welcome and looked after – Made is your guy.
I truly hope this comment helps him, because he absolutely deserves more recognition. Thank you, Made, for being the amazing person and guide that you are! 🙏🇮🇩

The Best Tour Guide in Bali!
We honestly couldn’t recommend Made enough! From start to finish, he was absolutely fantastic and went above and beyond to make our trip around Bali so special.
Before we even arrived, Made’s communication was amazing. He helped us plan our whole trip, gave us fantastic advice and recommendations, and really took the time to understand what we wanted to see and do. He made everything so easy and stress-free for us.
Throughout our trip, Made looked after us incredibly well. He picked us up, took us to all the different places we wanted to visit, and even showed us some amazing places we probably wouldn’t have found ourselves. His knowledge of Bali is incredible — he knew so much about every place we visited and was always happy to explain things and answer our questions.
What really stood out to us was how kind, caring and genuine Made was. He didn’t just feel like a tour guide; we genuinely felt like we were being looked after by a friend. He always made sure we were comfortable, safe and enjoying ourselves, and nothing ever felt like too much trouble.
Everyone in his team was also absolutely fantastic. They were friendly, professional and made us feel so welcome throughout our trip.
Made played such a huge part in making our Bali holiday so memorable. If you’re looking for someone who is reliable, knowledgeable, kind and genuinely cares about giving you the best possible experience, we would 100% recommend him.
Thank you so much, Made, for looking after us and helping us have such an amazing time in Bali. We’ll definitely be recommending you to anyone visiting Bali — and hopefully we’ll see you again one day! ❤️🇮🇩
