About Mason Elephant Park Ubud

Written by the Bali Saku Raba local team · Last verified September 2026

Mason Elephant Park & Lodge is a managed elephant facility in the village of Taro, Tegallalang, Gianyar Regency. Although it is commonly marketed as an Ubud attraction, it is in Taro rather than central Ubud. The park combines elephant-focused visitor activities with gardens, observation areas, an education centre and an on-site lodge. Use the exact map point and address when arranging transport, and allow extra time for the rural approach from Ubud.

The operator states that the park was founded in 1997 and cares for a herd of Sumatran elephants originating from government containment camps in Sumatra. Its public information describes welfare policies based on the Five Freedoms, veterinary care, individual diets, socialisation and rest. These are the operator’s stated practices; visitors should observe the animals quietly, follow staff directions and make their own informed decision about whether a managed-animal attraction aligns with their expectations.

Current visitor experience and animal welfare

Current information matters here. Balai KSDA Bali announced on 25 January 2026 that Mason Elephant Park had formally stopped all elephant-riding activities for visitors and commercial purposes, following the national direction to end elephant-riding displays at conservation institutions. The authority’s on-site monitoring that day found no riding display. Do not rely on older reviews, listings or archived packages that mention rides; check the operator’s current activities before booking.

The operator’s current programme lists general admission, hand-feeding and close encounters, treetop observation walks, free-roam viewing, an elephant museum and information centre, gardens, lake viewing and educational talks. Some bookable programmes involve guided wellness walks or washing interactions. Activities, participation rules and animal contact can change in response to welfare needs, weather or operational decisions, so confirm the current inclusions directly with the park rather than assuming a particular interaction is available.

Facilities and landscaped grounds

The operator’s official materials identify the elephant museum and landscaped gardens as part of the visitor setting. The museum image shows its indoor collection and elephant skeleton display, while the garden image documents orchids presented on the grounds. These views describe facilities at the park; always check the current programme for which visitor activities are operating.

Location and arrival

The official address is Jalan Elephant Safari Park, Banjar Desa Taro, Tegallalang, Taro, Kecamatan Tegallalang, Kabupaten Gianyar, Bali 80561. The park’s official site lists opening hours of 08.00–18.00, but schedules, last entry, transfers, meals and special activities should be reconfirmed with the operator before travel. The destination is not within walking distance of central Ubud for most visitors. Arrange a private driver, taxi or pre-booked transfer, use the exact map pin, and agree on a return collection point before entering.

Bring drinking water, sun protection and a light rain layer. Paths can be wet after rain, and visitors should wear secure shoes suitable for walking around a landscaped animal facility. Keep valuables secure, supervise children at all times, and use only designated paths and viewing areas. Do not feed an elephant, touch one, offer food or cross an enclosure unless a staff member directs you to do so.

How to visit responsibly

Elephants are large, intelligent animals with individual needs, not props for a photograph. Maintain the distance requested by staff, keep voices low, never approach from behind, and do not use flash photography unless permission is clear. Respect any temporary closure, rest period or change to a scheduled interaction. Choosing observation, education and staff-led experiences gives visitors a way to learn without bypassing welfare protocols.

Before booking, review the activity description, age or health requirements, transport arrangement, cancellation terms and what food or contact is included. Prices and inclusions can change. Confirm the current price and programme directly with the operator, and ask about welfare, accessibility, medical needs, or a child.s participation before paying. The official opening hours are useful for planning, but a confirmed reservation and current instructions take priority.

Planning a wider Taro and Ubud day

Mason Elephant Park is a distinct destination in Taro, not a section of Ubud town. Build your day around the park’s confirmed booking time and avoid combining it with a tightly timed central-Ubud itinerary. Road conditions, traffic and weather affect travel times in Gianyar. A driver who remains available for the return journey is often more practical than assuming an immediate pick-up will be available in a rural village.

For accurate, current information, consult the park’s official website and the relevant wildlife authority notices. This is especially important for activities involving direct animal contact, which may be adjusted to comply with animal-welfare directions.

I’m happy to leave this review because I know Made personally, and I can honestly say he’s one of the best guides and kindest people you’ll meet in Bali. What makes him special isn’t just his deep knowledge of the island – though that alone is impressive. He knows all the hidden gems, the best times to visit popular spots, and always has interesting stories behind every temple and rice terrace. But more than that, he genuinely cares about the people he’s with. He doesn't treat it like a job; he treats it like he's showing his own friends around his home. I’ve seen how he goes out of his way to make sure everything runs smoothly, how he checks in on comfort and safety, and how he handles any little issue with a smile. He's reliable, patient, and incredibly warm-hearted. If you're looking for someone who will not only show you beautiful places but also make you feel welcome and looked after – Made is your guy. I truly hope this comment helps him, because he absolutely deserves more recognition. Thank you, Made, for being the amazing person and guide that you are! 🙏🇮🇩

The Best Tour Guide in Bali! We honestly couldn’t recommend Made enough! From start to finish, he was absolutely fantastic and went above and beyond to make our trip around Bali so special. Before we even arrived, Made’s communication was amazing. He helped us plan our whole trip, gave us fantastic advice and recommendations, and really took the time to understand what we wanted to see and do. He made everything so easy and stress-free for us. Throughout our trip, Made looked after us incredibly well. He picked us up, took us to all the different places we wanted to visit, and even showed us some amazing places we probably wouldn’t have found ourselves. His knowledge of Bali is incredible — he knew so much about every place we visited and was always happy to explain things and answer our questions. What really stood out to us was how kind, caring and genuine Made was. He didn’t just feel like a tour guide; we genuinely felt like we were being looked after by a friend. He always made sure we were comfortable, safe and enjoying ourselves, and nothing ever felt like too much trouble. Everyone in his team was also absolutely fantastic. They were friendly, professional and made us feel so welcome throughout our trip. Made played such a huge part in making our Bali holiday so memorable. If you’re looking for someone who is reliable, knowledgeable, kind and genuinely cares about giving you the best possible experience, we would 100% recommend him. Thank you so much, Made, for looking after us and helping us have such an amazing time in Bali. We’ll definitely be recommending you to anyone visiting Bali — and hopefully we’ll see you again one day! ❤️🇮🇩
