Ubud Art Market, locally called Pasar Seni Ubud or Pasar Ubud, is a central shopping and cultural landmark on Jalan Raya Ubud in Gianyar, Bali. It stands directly opposite Puri Saren Agung, better known as Ubud Royal Palace, and within walking distance of Saraswati Temple, Ubud Palace, and central Ubud’s galleries and cafés. The market is a working public marketplace as well as a visitor attraction: its stalls connect everyday trading, Balinese craft production, and the souvenir economy.

What is Ubud Art Market known for?
Visitors come to browse Balinese textiles, sarongs, woven bags, baskets, hats, clothing, paintings, wood carvings, masks, small statues, jewellery, kites, home décor, and other handmade souvenirs. The selection is not fixed: stock, quality, materials, and prices vary by stall and season. Look closely at stitching, weave, carving detail, finish, weight, and signs of machine production before deciding that an item is handmade or locally produced.

Market atmosphere and local activity
Pasar Seni Ubud is not a quiet museum or a curated art gallery. Narrow passages, close stalls, delivery movement, motorbikes, and crowds are part of the central-market setting. Older descriptions of Ubud also distinguish between visitor-facing craft stalls and early-day trade in food, flowers, offerings, and household goods. These functions and layouts can change after rebuilding, fires, renovations, or local management decisions, so treat the market as a living place rather than expecting one permanent floor plan.

History, rebuilding, and current status
Ubud’s market has long supported local commerce and the town’s reputation as a centre for Balinese arts and crafts. The market has also experienced major fire and rebuilding episodes, including the 2016 fire and later damage reported in 2024. A Gianyar government notice dated 16 February 2026 described a melaspas and purification ceremony after a fire at the themed tourism people’s market and stated that the area was ready to function again. Because individual blocks, stalls, and access points may still change, verify the condition of the exact section you want to visit on the day.
How to shop for Balinese crafts
Start by walking through several stalls so you can compare similar products. Ask what a piece is made from, where it was produced, whether it is practical to carry, and whether the price includes packaging. For paintings and carvings, inspect the back, frame, joints, surface, and overall finish. For woven bags and textiles, check the lining, handles, seams, colour, and fibre. If provenance or ethical sourcing matters to you, ask direct questions and keep the answer in mind when comparing prices.

Bargaining is common in tourist-oriented stalls, but it works best as a calm, respectful conversation. Ask the price, make an offer you would genuinely be happy to pay, and stop if the seller declines. Do not photograph a product and then use the image to copy a local design without permission. For fragile, sharp, large, or perishable items, arrange suitable wrapping and transport before completing the purchase.
Best time to visit
Public map listings currently show daytime trading, commonly around 10:00–17:00, but hours can differ between the main market, traditional sections, and individual stalls. Early morning may offer a more local produce-market atmosphere, while late morning and afternoon are generally more convenient for browsing craft stalls. There is no general entrance ticket simply to browse; your costs are the items you buy, transport, and any applicable parking or delivery charges. Check current local notices or ask your accommodation before relying on a specific opening time.
Location, transport, and nearby sights
Ubud Art Market is listed at Jalan Raya Ubud No. 35, Ubud, Kecamatan Ubud, Kabupaten Gianyar, Bali 80571, opposite Ubud Palace. The market’s central location makes walking practical from nearby hotels and attractions, but roads and pavements can be congested. Arrange a legal drop-off rather than stopping across a palace gate, market entrance, shopfront, or residential access. From the market, visitors can continue to Ubud Palace, Pura Taman Saraswati, Ubud Water Palace, nearby galleries, or an evening performance at the palace; these are separate places with their own access rules and schedules.
The destination’s stored map point is -8.5069, 115.2624. Use the market name and this central Ubud reference when arranging a driver, then confirm the safest current entrance locally because traffic management and market access can change.
Responsible visiting and etiquette
Keep bags and phones secure in crowded passages, leave room for vendors and local shoppers, and ask before photographing people, stalls, products, or religious items. Do not touch offerings, enter private shop areas, block walkways, or climb on market structures. During rain, take care on wet floors and covered lanes. Carry a reusable bag, reduce single-use packaging, and take rubbish with you when bins are full. A fair purchase and respectful interaction help keep the market useful for both residents and visitors.

I’m happy to leave this review because I know Made personally, and I can honestly say he’s one of the best guides and kindest people you’ll meet in Bali.
What makes him special isn’t just his deep knowledge of the island – though that alone is impressive. He knows all the hidden gems, the best times to visit popular spots, and always has interesting stories behind every temple and rice terrace. But more than that, he genuinely cares about the people he’s with. He doesn't treat it like a job; he treats it like he's showing his own friends around his home.
I’ve seen how he goes out of his way to make sure everything runs smoothly, how he checks in on comfort and safety, and how he handles any little issue with a smile. He's reliable, patient, and incredibly warm-hearted. If you're looking for someone who will not only show you beautiful places but also make you feel welcome and looked after – Made is your guy.
I truly hope this comment helps him, because he absolutely deserves more recognition. Thank you, Made, for being the amazing person and guide that you are! 🙏🇮🇩

The Best Tour Guide in Bali!
We honestly couldn’t recommend Made enough! From start to finish, he was absolutely fantastic and went above and beyond to make our trip around Bali so special.
Before we even arrived, Made’s communication was amazing. He helped us plan our whole trip, gave us fantastic advice and recommendations, and really took the time to understand what we wanted to see and do. He made everything so easy and stress-free for us.
Throughout our trip, Made looked after us incredibly well. He picked us up, took us to all the different places we wanted to visit, and even showed us some amazing places we probably wouldn’t have found ourselves. His knowledge of Bali is incredible — he knew so much about every place we visited and was always happy to explain things and answer our questions.
What really stood out to us was how kind, caring and genuine Made was. He didn’t just feel like a tour guide; we genuinely felt like we were being looked after by a friend. He always made sure we were comfortable, safe and enjoying ourselves, and nothing ever felt like too much trouble.
Everyone in his team was also absolutely fantastic. They were friendly, professional and made us feel so welcome throughout our trip.
Made played such a huge part in making our Bali holiday so memorable. If you’re looking for someone who is reliable, knowledgeable, kind and genuinely cares about giving you the best possible experience, we would 100% recommend him.
Thank you so much, Made, for looking after us and helping us have such an amazing time in Bali. We’ll definitely be recommending you to anyone visiting Bali — and hopefully we’ll see you again one day! ❤️🇮🇩
