Virgin Beach

About Virgin Beach

Written by the Bali Saku Raba local team · Last verified August 2026

Virgin Beach (also called White Sand Beach or Pantai Perasi) is one of the most beautifully unspoilt beaches in East Bali, a crescent of white sand with calm, clear water reached via a short walk down a steep hill through a coconut grove. The beach faces west with views of fishing boats and Bali's coastline stretching into the distance.

Despite increasing awareness, Virgin Beach retains a secluded and natural feel, with only a handful of simple warungs and no development behind the tree line. The water is calm and suitable for swimming, and the beach is excellent for snorkelling along the rocky headlands on either side.

Understanding Virgin Beach

Virgin Beach, also known as Pantai Bias Putih or Pantai Perasi, is a white-sand beach associated with Perasi in Karangasem, East Bali. The beach is reached from higher ground and has a coastal setting shaped by cliffs, vegetation, fishing activity, and changing sea conditions. It is a real community coastline, not an enclosed resort, so access, facilities, and the atmosphere can vary through the day.

The local tourism authority describes the beach as a place with white sand and a quieter setting than many southern Bali beaches, while also noting that waves can be present. Do not interpret the word “Virgin” as a promise of untouched land, empty sand, or safe water. The shoreline remains subject to weather, tide, swell, currents, and local use.

Beach activities and safety

Visitors may walk along the sand, sit by the water, observe fishing boats, or arrange simple food and beach services through local businesses. Swimming or snorkelling should be considered only after checking the day’s conditions. A beach that looks calm from the shore can still have currents or breaking waves. Stay within your ability, supervise children closely, and follow local warnings or any area marked for boats.

Rocky edges and wet sand can be slippery. Do not climb unstable slopes, stand beneath loose rock, or enter the sea to retrieve an object. Snorkelling equipment, umbrellas, seating, food, and other services may be offered locally, but availability and prices are not fixed. Ask what is included and keep personal belongings secure.

Location and access

Virgin Beach is in Karangasem Regency on Bali’s east coast, associated with the Perasi area. Visitors approach by road and then descend from the upper access area. The final road and walking conditions can change with weather, maintenance, traffic, and local arrangements. Confirm the current entrance, parking point, and route locally rather than relying on an old travel description.

Wear secure footwear for the descent and bring water, sun protection, and a dry bag for electronics. Allow flexible time for the return climb and avoid leaving after dark if the route is unfamiliar. The Amed Salt Farms guide offers a separate Karangasem coastal livelihood experience, while the Mount Agung guide describes a different mountain and sacred landscape. Do not assume the access or safety conditions are interchangeable.

When to visit

Light, tide, wind, rainfall, and swell all affect the beach. Early or late visits may offer different light and heat, but no particular crowd level, sea state, or sunset is guaranteed. Check local conditions before swimming and postpone if the access path becomes slippery or the sea is rough. Facilities may open or close according to local business schedules and weather.

Responsible coastal conduct

Take rubbish away, use designated bins, and avoid removing sand, shells, coral, plants, or rocks. Stay on established paths, respect private land and fishing activity, and ask before photographing residents, boats, ceremonies, or businesses. Keep noise reasonable and do not leave food scraps that attract animals. Follow local instructions during ceremonies or community events.

Parking, admission, facilities, food services, operating times, and access rules can change. Confirm details locally and support stated community arrangements. The safest visit is one that respects the coastline as a shared living environment rather than treating it as a private photo set.
